Reading, Teamwork, and Triumph: Highlights from the 25th Battle of the Books
This year’s Battle of the Books was a milestone event—celebrating 25 years of sparking curiosity, building reading confidence, and bringing students together through the joy of books. And what a year to celebrate! Congratulations to Amelia, Audrey, Ruby, and Luci—the unstoppable “Chapter Champions” from Woodmont K-8—for winning this year’s competition with a perfect score!
This victory marks Woodmont K-8's first-ever district-wide win in the history of the competition. As a lasting symbol of their achievement, their school and team name will be engraved on the official trophy, which will proudly be displayed at Woodmont throughout the next academic year.
The final round, hosted once again at Todd Beamer High School, brought together 3rd–5th grade teams from across the district—each earning their place by first winning their school’s own competition. These students spent weeks preparing by reading 12 different books and studying details ranging from characters and settings to plot points and authors. The format was tough: 25 questions, and each answer had to be the correct book title.
A Battle of the Books team deliberates before sharing their final answer.
Success depended on teamwork. Each member played a key role—bringing their own insights and strengths to the table, highlighting their shared dedication and collaboration.
This year’s competition was especially fierce and exciting. Six teams tied for second place, and three teams tied for third, showing just how hard everyone worked and how close the scores were.
The energy in the room was electric, with families, classmates, and staff cheering from the audience, proud of every student’s effort. The event was a true celebration—not just of winners, but of the power of reading and the joy of learning together.

We’d like to give a heartfelt thank you to FWPS library leads Julie Shields and Christine Young for organizing and leading this fantastic event. Their commitment to literacy and student engagement helps make Battle of the Books a cherished tradition year after year.
Congratulations again to our new champions—and to all of this year’s teams—for showing what’s possible when we read, prepare, and grow together!
